What is Henry Street Settlement House?
Henry Street Settlement’s mission is to open doors of opportunity for Lower East Side residents and other New Yorkers through social services, arts, and health care programs. The organization is distinguished by its commitment to listening to and learning from our neighbors—and then acting to meet the most pressing needs of our community.
How can I get involved?
Meal Service: volunteers to assist with packing and serving meals to our seniors during scheduled meal times.
Kitchen Assistance: volunteers lend a hand in our kitchen, which includes chopping vegetables, assisting with meal preparation, and helping with kitchen clean-up.
Senior Companions: Healthy older adults volunteer to help homebound or isolated fellow seniors live independently. Volunteers are matched with a client for regular weekly scheduled companionship services.
Meals on Wheels: volunteers help make home food deliveries to seniors across our community.
Community-Wide Events: Can’t make any weekday volunteer opportunities? Henry Street often hosts weekend community events for our youth and families!

What is CAAAV: Organizing Asian Communities?
CAAAV Organizing Asian Communities works to build grassroots community power across diverse poor and working class Asian immigrant and refugee communities in New York City. They were founded in 1986 by Asian working class women alarmed by the spike of hate violence on Asian communities and its root causes stemming from institutional racism in the United States. Through an organizing model of base-building, leadership development, campaigns, alliances, and organizational development- they organize Asian communities to fight for institutional change and participates in a broader movement towards racial, gender, and economic justice.
